Although there was great excitement and anticipation on Friday 15th at the 2013 Annual Exhibition and Trophy night of the South Coast Camera Club, one couldn't help feeling a little sad at the noticeable absence of the club's past President and long time member Reg Arnold, who had ended up in hospital after a nasty fall from his bike whilst out riding. The clubs new President Andy Mitchell opened the night by briefly outlining a slightly different programme that the club hoped to take in 2014, the emphasise being taken off the competition each month to having more interaction with the members sharing ideas, information and taking photo's together (Part of this idea was trialled the previous Saturday with an enjoyable outing spent at Port Elliot taking photo's together with a coffee break at a local cafe, finishing later in the day with a meal of fish and chips and a good bit of chatter!)
It was then on to the competition part of the evening with Andy welcoming the Judges - David Smith the main Judge, Richard Hodges to select a winner for his perpetual "Creative Trophy" and club Patron Neville Anderson selecting the "Evan Laslett Trophy "( for Human Social Photo Documentary - in honour of our founding member) and "People/Portrait Trophy". Quite a challenge as all of these awards were to be selected from a display of the members "10 Best Images" for 2013.
Top colour print was won by Brad Hodge with "Lone Fisherman"
Top small colour print was won by Heather Randall with "Valley Coast"
Mono print was won by Wendy Hodge with "Log Cabin 2"
Top Digital photo was won by Rowena Smith with "Leaving Troubridge Island "
Image of the Year "Lone Fisherman" by Brad Hodge.
Richard Hodge's Creative Trophy was won by Ken Harvey with his print "The Singing Butler"
Laslett Trophy was won by Don Cannan with his print "Doing the Ironing"
People/Portrait was won by Ken Harvey with his mono print "Sad News"
When the judging had been completed the Judges presented trophies to the winner of each category and certificates to the runner ups. The clubs trophies had been kindly made by Neville Anderson who had carved an image of a whale out of wood, reminding us of our great tourist attraction during the winter months .
The formal part of our night came to a close with Andy announcing Petra Elliott as having the highest average score across all entries in 2013, followed very closely (.013 difference) by Brad Hodge, it was heard to be said by one of the witty members" it must have been by a bees knees" (Petra is known in the club for her famous insect photo's especially bees! ) and very closely again in 3rd place was Andy Mitchell.
The night finished with the usual cuppa and bickie, with all looking forward to the end of year Social Evening on the 7th of December when there will be a slide show of every ones best images whilst having a chat and a bite to eat.
